Meet the co-founder Katie Warner Johnson

Carbon38 is an online sportswear shop that sets the bar for fashionable fitness apparel – their hashtag is even “RUNinRUNway.” Here we learn about how CEO and co-founder Katie Warner Johnson stays in shape, what her 2016 resolution is, and what beauty products are her favorites.

BWB: What is your morning routine?

Wake up, drink a glass of water, take shot of apple cider vinegar and oregano oil, hit the gym.

BWB: What are your five go-to products?

  • Essentia water (the mega 1.5L bottle)
  • SK-II facial treatment mask
  • BioK Plus probiotic shots (I like the blueberry flavor)
  • Kiehl’s Clearly Corrective Purifying Foaming Cleanser
  • Natural Vitality Calm Tea

BWB: What do you do regularly to de-stress?

I currently use an app called Calm. It is a series of guided meditations that work when in a pinch. I also have a little garden that I putter around in on Sundays. There is definitely something in the air in Santa Monica that lowers my blood pressure.

BWB: What is your beauty mantra?

I plan on living forever. So prevention is key. No sun, lots of water and a healthy dose of self-confidence.

BWB: What do you do to stay in shape?

I just joined Crossfit. That decision may or may not have been motivated by all the cute boys I saw posturing when I looked in the window passing by.

BWB: Do you have a favorite workout class?

So many! Jillian Davis’ at SoulCyle, Mary Miller’s at the Studio (MDR), Nikki Rifkin’s at Bar Method, Astrid McGuire’s at Barry’s Bootcamp, Erica Hood’s at Body By Simone. The list could go on.

BWB: Do you have any favorite healthy food places in L.A?

M Café, Erewon, Kreation, Real Food Daily, Fala Bar, Beaming, Café Gratitude. Ugh. Now I am hungry.

Our team received Fitbits for the holidays, so we fight each other for the treadmill in one of our meeting rooms.

BWB: Do you have any tips for a healthier work environment?

At Carbon38 we are lucky enough to have a terrific community of ambassadors who stop by our offices weekly to teach classes. Every Thursday we host an employee sweat sesh. Our team also received Fitbits for the holidays, so we fight each other for the treadmill in one of our meeting rooms. We can get pretty competitive when it comes to step count…

BWB: As we get into Spring, do you make any changes to your beauty routine?

I probably should be more particular, but it is basically summer all year round in L.A, right? I am definitely better at making good food choices come Spring (the holidays always do me in) and that definitely has an effect on my appearance.

I am flying off to an exotic locale with a terrific book, a giant sunhat, no cell service and not checking my email for four days.

BWB: Any Spring activities you’re looking forward to?

I am taking a vacation! And this is a really big deal, as I haven’t been on vacation for five plus years. I am flying off to an exotic locale with a terrific book, a giant sunhat, no cell service and not checking my email for four days. It’s gonna be big.
