Aerin Lauder

Aerin’s life has been nothing short of extraordinarily successful, and we wanted to know more about this inspiring woman and her new company.

As the granddaughter of Estée Lauder and daughter of Ronald Lauder, Aerin Lauder comes from a long line of leading figures in the cosmetic industry. Though for most of her career she worked her way up through the ranks of her grandmother’s beauty empire, three years ago she took what she had learned and launched AERIN, a brand that offers timelessly elegant lifestyle products for fashion, home and beauty.

Aerin’s life has been nothing short of extraordinarily successful, and we wanted to know more about this inspiring woman and her vision for this new company.

BWB: You launched your line AERIN 3 years ago. Could you tell us how it all started?

While beauty is my heritage, home and accessories have always been my passion. I noticed a void in the marketplace for a well-edited, curated lifestyle brand that was both feminine and modern.

My grandmother always said “you only have one face, take care of it” which has always stayed with me.

BWB: What is the best beauty lesson you learned from your grandmother?

My grandmother always said “you only have one face, take care of it” which has always stayed with me. Skincare and beauty is such an important part of my routine. She also taught me to develop an edited routine, black nail polish may be popular, but it’s not for everyone.

BWB: What are some key staple items we would find in your beauty cabinet?

You can find AERIN Pretty Bronze Illuminating Powder; bronzer always makes me look fresh, especially after a long flight. I also have AERIN Rose Lip Conditioner, and Aveda’s Dry Shampoo Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair, to use every morning and night; it’s really nourishing. I have Crème de La Mer, and then a Fragrance – I rotate fragrances depending on my mood or event. Lately I have been wearing a lot of Ikat Jasmine (for more casual weekends) and Rose de Grasse.

BWB: Do you have any favorite brands (other than your own) that you also like to use these days?

La Mer makes an amazing face mask that I try to find time for each week and Clinique has a great exfoliating scrub.

BWB: How do you pack when you travel?

I always bring staple pieces along for a trip – Stella McCartney black blazer, great pair of jeans, ballet flats and an oversized scarf. I also love layering gold pieces of jewelry as an easy way of changing my look from day to night. I try to keep packing very streamlined and bring specific looks for whatever I have planned. Beauty-wise, I bring my edited makeup bag, which usually includes lip conditioner, fragrance, brown eyeliner, bronzer and a lip gloss – my beauty essentials.

BWB: You are known for your incredible sense of style. Your store AERIN not only sells beauty gifts, but also wonderful objects for the home, accessories and décor. What defines the AERIN style?

AERIN is based on the premise that living beautifully should be effortless. I wanted a place where our clients could come and shop cross-category in a space that is edited for them. Our customers love that they can pick up a hostess gift, a pair of boots and their favorite fragrance all in one stop.

BWB: What are some of your favorite places in the city?

New York City is filled with so much culture and excitement. There is always something new to see at the Neue Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art or the Museum of Modern Art. I also love the new Whitney Museum space downtown.
For a meal some of my favorites include Swifty’s, Café Sabarsky, J.G. Melon’s and Kappo Masa.
For shopping nothing beats Bergdorf Goodman or strolling up Madison Avenue.
