Prepare your skin for the sun

Here are some nature-based suggestions in order to spend a nice and healthy summer with a radiant skin.

Here are some nature-based suggestions in order to spend a nice and healthy summer with a radiant skin.

BE PREPARED

If you want to protect your skin during the summer, you have to think ahead of time. If you suffer from sun allergies, it’s a good idea to take some Selenium on a daily basis, one month prior to departure and until the end of exposure to the sun.

One brazil nut per day is enough to fulfill a daily need in selenium.

WHAT TO DO:
The daily recommended dosage is 55 mcg for women and 70 for men.
WHERE DO YOU FIND SELENIUM?
In dietary complements or in certain foods, for example fruits and vegetables (tomato, cabbage, broccoli, onion, garlic, mushrooms).
The brazil nut is very rich in selenium and is easy to find. One brazil nut per day is enough to fulfill a daily need in selenium. You can also eat a can of tuna (100gr) or a dozen oysters or clams.
If you wish to vary, you may choose to eat 100gr of herring or 150 gr of oily fish but eggs, meats and giblets also qualify.

In addition to these foods which are rich in selenium, you may add some vitamin E and C.
You can find the vitamin E in great quantity in wheat germ, sunflower, hazelnut and almond oils.
It is also found in many vegetables but in a lesser amount.
Vitamin C is found in fruits like cherries, Acerola (under the form of capsules) , buckthorn juice (1 tablespoon per day , in pharmacies or bio stores), blackcurrant, guava, red pepper, parsley, orange, lemon, kiwi, strawberries, cabbage and spinach…

…About sunblock creams
Favor the creams with the lesser amount of artificial products and those made with natural filters based on minerals like zinc oxide or titanium dioxide.

SUMMER AROMATHERAPY

Saint John’s wort oil is divine and you can apply it on your body, when you come back from the beach or to appease sun burn.
This oil is also very good for tanning. Be careful not to apply it in the morning because of a risk of photosensitization.

It is also useful to have some aloe vera gel to soothe burns. Guaranteed instant result!

Evening primrose or borage oil in capsule intake (1 to 2 times a day) to maintain a beautiful skin.

Daisy oil, which is a kind of dry oil, is very nice to apply to your body after you shower.

Monoï oil to apply on your hair after sun exposure.

Lavender essential oil for motion sickness.
How to use it? Rub a bit of lavender essential oil under the earlobe.

If you travel by plane, train or if you are staying in air conditioned spaces, you want to avoid catching viruses or infections. Ask your pharmacist to prepare a combination of essential oils with cinnamon, eucalyptus, lavender and winter savory. You may find them already combined and in single doses that you can carry in your purse and easily take along for your travels (RESISTIM from Laboratoires MOTIMA ).

A LITTLE ADVICE FOR A GOOD START

During the days prior to your departure, drink a hot (and organic) lemon juice every morning. This will help you fight the stress of departure, it will also give you some energy, prevent the feeling of tired and heavy legs, and also will prevent the common cold linked to air conditioned transportation…
