Fabulous Fit on the West Coast
Here is a sampling of the latest and greatest for all things fitness & wellness in L.A – S.F
With the New Year comes a renewed desire to get fit and stay fabulous. (#newyearnewyou)
It also breeds a desire for adventure and a willingness to explore and try new things, including new fitness and wellness discoveries!
In honor of this month’s focus on the West Coast, I’m offering up a healthy sampling of the latest and greatest for all things fitness and wellness on our sister coast in Los Angeles and San Francisco.
So pack up your snow boots as we cross the flyover in search of sun, sand, and sweat!
Los Angeles
For those of you who prefer the boutique fitness scene, my favorite spot is Ballet Bodies, founded by celebrity trainer and former NYC ballerina, Andie Hecker.
Most of us are familiar with the famousstairs in Santa Monica, the gorgeous hiking in Griffith Park and Runyon Canyon, or the stretch along San Vincente in Brentwood for the running enthusiasts among us.
While not particularly new to the fitness scene, they are such great outdoor fitness options that they deserve a mention.

For a workout extremely fresh and new….it just opened on January 1st!… head to Bridget C’s Barre Lab in Hollywood.
(Formerly a Pop Physique outpost.) Expect this location to be the Hollywood fitness hotspot for LA’s up and coming movers and shakers.
Bridget has already created a following amongst the fashion crowd, garnering social media shouts-outs from Live FAST Magazine creator Vivianne Lapointe and her cohort in crime, model Roxanna Dunlop.
Feeling under the weather this winter and not quite up to your usual workout regimen? Then be sure to head to one of the three Shape House locations, for a unique infrared sweat experience. Aptly dubbed the Urban Sweat Lodge, you can detox in private and comfort while catching up on your favorite shows on Netflix!
If you are visiting the Larchmont location, you can stroll over to Café Gratitude afterwards for healthy hydration options.
San Francisco
Looking to channel your inner start-up-techie? Head over to Cover founder’s favorite yoga spot, Yoga Tree for a wide assortment of yoga options in multiple locations.
Admittedly New York and Los Angeles have a plethora of fitness options in comparison to the rest of the country, however San Francisco may soon give them a run for their money.
Taking a stroll through the Muir Woods or attempting a run through the hilly streets of San Fran are always great outdoor option, when the weather turns soggy, I recommend heading indoors for some rock climbing at Mission Cliffs located in the mission district, just a few blocks away from one of my favorite indulgences Dandelion Chocolates.

If you are planning on squeezing in a ski trip or two this season, you can prep for the altitude at AirFit in The Quad in Pleasanton. Classes take place in a “hypoxic environment that mimics high altitude” and it is said that a 50 minute workout at high altitude is equivalent to a 90 minute workout at sea level.
