The Hemsley Sisters

Earlier this month, while in London, I stopped by their launch event for Good + Simple, Jasmine and Melissa’s highly anticipated second book, and took the opportunity to ask them a few questions.

Loved by the food, fitness and fashion industries alike, sisters Jasmine and Melissa Hemsley have taken the health and wellness world by storm. Within two weeks of creating their blog, the girls were asked to contribute to British Vogue.co.uk where they are still regular columnists.

They also wrote their first, best-selling cookbook, The Art of Eating Well which champions nourishing, home-cooked food. Their philosophy is poured into every page, from their love of bone broth to using natural fats as a diet staple. Packed with over 150 exciting recipes, it’s hard to believe that these delicious dishes are free from grain, gluten and refined sugar. Last year, the Hemsleys launched their sell-out Hemsley Spiralizer, a must-have kitchen tool for instantly turning fruit and vegetables into noodle-like spirals.

Earlier this month, while in London, I stopped by their launch event for Good + Simple, Jasmine and Melissa’s highly anticipated second book, and took the opportunity to ask them a few questions about their company and their city.

Hemsley

Brunswick House in Vauxhall or 45 Jermyn Street are two of my go-to spots for a proper slap-up breakfast.

BWB: What are some of you favorite breakfast places?

Jasmine: Brickwood Café in Clapham has a lovely laid-back Aussie vibe with great brunch options. It makes me nostalgic for a brilliant trip I made to Australia for my 30th birthday, and let dog Julie in – they even cook up an egg for her!

Melissa: Brunswick House in Vauxhall or 45 Jermyn Street are two of my go-to spots for a proper slap-up breakfast.

BWB: Morning activities?

M: Playing with my dog Nelly in the local park – I used to squat holding her when she was a puppy but now she’s 25kg! I also love a good reformer Pilates class at FRAME or a Barry’s Bootcamp Class in the morning to get me pumped up for the day ahead.

J: Morning are now all about walking the dog so my other half Nick and I sometimes run Julie around. That, or we have a go at the outside gym while Julie wrestles with other dogs. Other days I’ll do an online yoga video like Tara Stiles, or if I can fit in a class with TriYoga or Frame around my first appointment of the day, I’ll do that.

BWB: A place for a lazy WE lunch?

M: Sea Containers at the Mondrian Hotel in London – it does excellent brunch, has great cocktails and a private cinema (which is a fun way to finish off a lazy weekend meal!) After that I’d go for a wander down South Bank to the Tate Modern and maybe into town for a bit of shopping.

J: Elliot’s and Wright Brothers in Borough are great and only a 15 min walk from mine for for tasty seasonal dishes.

I also really like the shops on Marylebone High Street, especially Content Beauty for all-natural skincare and beauty products.

BWB: Shopping streets?

M: On a Saturday Maltby Street Market is great for food. If you’re looking for everything under one roof it has to be Selfridges, my favorite department store. We’re very excited to be opening our first ever café there in April!

J: As a South-Londoner I love Borough or Oval Market for all my food shopping, I also really like the shops on Marylebone High Street, especially Content Beauty for all-natural skincare and beauty products.

BWB: Dinner destinations with friends?

M: A new favorite is the Newman Arms; there’s a pub downstairs and a lovely, relaxed restaurant upstairs. The food is brilliant and made with top-quality, thoughtfully sourced ingredients, which we always love to support.

J: Goodman’s if you’re in the mood for a simple, early supper of good grass-fed steak and good wine with friends. St John is also a great option – like us, they’re big believers of nose-to-tail eating and I’ve never had a bad meal there!
