BWB spoke with David Stanko, Vice President of Technical Design and Education for Madison Reed,to learn how technology is changing the way we color our hair with Madisons Reed’s safe and affordable at-home color kits.

What inspired Madison Reed to encourage women to take control of their own hair color?

Before Madison Reed came on the scene, women had just two options for hair color. They could purchase inexpensive drugstore hair color that offered no emotional connection, or they could schedule a time-consuming and often costly salon visit.

Our founder, Amy Errett, thought that there was a third lane: Give women everything they want in a salon-quality hair color, while meeting her on her terms. At Madison Reed, a woman can go to one of our Color Barsto have her color applied—then she can purchase exactly the same hair color, be coached through the application process and have it delivered right to her door.

How does Madison Reed’s app and technology aid and support your clients with their hair color journeys?

To fulfill the promise of meeting every woman on her terms, we offer several technologies on every platform from mobile, tablet or desktop to in-person. Our online Color Advisor technology takes a woman through a series of questions that lead to an ideal shade recommendation. We have a Color Crew of licensed colorists available by email, phone and online chat. “Madi,” our hair color chatbot, allows a woman to text a color photo of herself to 34757 and receive a shade match instantly. Our newest technology offering is our AR (Augmented Reality) tool that allows a woman to try on different hair colors. Just log onto the website, and at the “View My Shade” prompt, take a selfie with your cell phone camera. Youll be able to try on all the beautiful Madison Reed hair color shades right through your phone!

We maintain a growing database of over 5 million client profiles, so whether a woman is logging in at home, checking her phone on-the-go, or visiting a Color Bar, we can always meet her on her terms to ensure a perfect shade match.
