Interview

With Kathrin Werderitsch

Kathrin Werderitsch is a model, quintessentially beautiful but unique in the way she manages her beauty. She takes a strictly holistic approach and the results are strikingly hard to miss. Recently, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Kathrin to discuss her success in fashion and how it complimented her desire to grow, learn, and explore the wellness world we both love.

It is not difficult to see that Katherin is at the peak of her career, traveling the world with many top modeling agencies. I have discovered, however, that there is a lot more to this model than the golden hair and pretty face her photos capture.

Beyond her layer of grace and confidence, she is extremely soft spoken and humble. She hardly take for granted the intoxicating glow and fit figure the cameras so adore, in fact, she values her body so much that she insists on treating it right. Kathrin’s idea of beauty is rooted in health; she has years of personal study, a certification from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, and experience volunteering at ALOHA to prove it.

Take a look at my interview with Katherin to see for yourself just how integral a role nutrition plays in her everyday life and in her beauty.

What we eat, when and why has a lot to do with how we feel and how we were raised.

BWB: What inspired you to study at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition during such a successful point in your modeling career?

I have always been interested in psychology. I have always wanted to learn what makes people do the things they do and especially eat the foods they eat. What we eat, when and why has a lot to do with how we feel and how we were raised. Working in fashion, there is clearly a lot of emphasis on food and diets, so it seemed like a good time for me to learn about the best way to treat my body.

BWB: Have you observed any shifts or changes in the fashion world as the wellness space continues to grow? Has this change impacted your career in any way?

There has definitely been a broader selection of body shapes in modeling since I have started; I suspect it has to do with the rise in social media’s promotion of body positivity. Plus, the increased societal interest in fitness and the boom in active-wear have opened up opportunities for more models, which I think is great. Even though this might sound hypocritical coming from a model, I truly believe that there is more to female beauty than appearance. We are beyond a dress size and our age. We shouldn’t limit ourselves.

Studying at the Institute of Integrative Nutrition expanded my knowledge of nutrition and well-being.

BWB: We know you have a passion for being a part of the growing holistic health community. How have you been contributing and supporting this movement?

I know for me personally, it has been about staying true to my most authentic self. Supporting any movement starts with this. I was never one to bend myself to meet the fashion standards that varied from client to client, like being extremely thin, having small boobs, having big boobs… the list goes on. You can never fit every category and trying to would just drive you crazy. Studying at the Institute of Integrative Nutrition expanded my knowledge of nutrition and well-being. Now that I know how to take care of my body and soul I want to raise awareness by leading as an example. If people like what they see and want to work with me, that’s great!

I am also a big fan of the ALOHA products; their green powder and protein powder come in single packages which allows me to take them travelling, letting me have something healthy wherever I go.

BWB: Can you share your daily routine and favorite “self-care” rituals that help you stay healthy and happy, especially when traveling around the globe?

I think the biggest challenge in the fashion industry is that there is no routine, so I really try to create one for myself. I work out almost every morning, even if it’s only for a half an hour in a tiny hotel gym. It gets my endorphins going; I get to have some me-time and get to listen to my favorite music. That makes me happy. I also love massages (they’re one of my favorite indulgences) and a good bath with Epsom salt or natural oils. I try to fit those in whenever I can. I am also a big fan of the ALOHA products; their green powder and protein powder come in single packages which allows me to take them travelling, letting me have something healthy wherever I go.

BWB: We know of your love for the water & sea. Are there any places you have traveled to or products inspired by these places that you have found specifically healing?

One of my favorite quotes is “The cure for anything is salt water: sweat, tears or the sea.” I also recently rediscovered the joy of hiking along all the natural freshwater springs and streams in my home country, Austria. I would say, whether your preference is sweet or salty waters, always take the time to go out in nature and be by water. It’s incredibly healing.

BWB: What are your favorite holistic spaces to go in NYC and Los Angeles? Are there are practitioners or healers that you can’t live without?

I love small massage places with a healing, relaxing ambience because they allow me to disconnect and recuperate. My favorite spots are Rhemedy by Rhed and Pratima Spa, both of which are in NYC. I’m still looking for the place to call home in L.A.

BWB: What are your favorite go-to places in Los Angeles and New York City for healthy eating and dining?

I am not so familiar with the best restaurants in L.A., but my girlfriends always take me out and it seems everywhere we go there are healthy options. In New York, I like a classic, simple, warm meal at Souen, it never disappoints. And of course Juice Press! I love that they deliver. I like to stock up on healthy foods and juices from Juice Press and Organic Avenue so I can bring them to work with me.
