Spotlight on Prisca Courtin-Clarins The new face of Clarins Spa
The French cosmetics empire Clarins can now also count on the granddaughters of the founder to perpetuate the family’s visionary spirit.
We met with Prisca Courtin-Clarins.
The French cosmetics empire Clarins is one of the most familiar skin care brands in Europe and is now becoming a recognized name in the US. Founded by the great Jacques Courtin-Clarins, the family-owned company has been managed for the past decades by the two sons: Christian and Olivier.
Now, we can also count on the granddaughters of the founder to perpetuate the family’s visionary spirit. They are the four absolutely stunning, bright and fabulous cousins: Prisca, Jenna, Virginie and Claire.
More than just ambassadors for the company, two of them have taken a very active role within Clarins. We had the privilege to interview Prisca Courtin-Clarins who is in charge of the Spa Activities development.
Our motto is: inner and external beauty are essential to feeling good and looking your best.
Clémence von Mueffling: Talk to us about your Spa & Lunch project, launched this year in France.
Prisca Courtin-Clarins: The project is a super innovative concept that all girls have been waiting for, because we mix beauty, well-being and gourmet breaks. Our motto is: inner and external beauty are essential to feeling good and looking your best. Indeed, the concept associates health and diet with Clarins’ skin care philosophy. The lunch menu is based on the Clarins ingredient “herbarium”, which is composed of thousands of plants, while conserving the delight of tasty yet healthy dishes. Events such as the “beauty brunch” and “café make-up” will be offered. The first space has opened in Lille, and we will launch the entire franchise starting next year.
CvM: Do you have similar projects on other continents?
PC-C: A month ago we opened a Medispa in Miami with Dr. Serure, a noted plastic surgeon in the United States.
The concept of Medispa is as follows: we prepare the client’s skin before surgery, and we treat the aggressions caused during surgery -such as scars- with post-surgery care.
I would just like to point out that my grandfather, Jacques Courtin-Clarins, started creating Clarins products 60 years ago to reduce and soften the scars that women had after the war, making them look and feel more beautiful. These products such as plant-based face and body oils and Double Serum are still cult favorite products around the world today.
During the summer, I add three drops of Golden Glow Booster in my day cream to give my skin a beautiful glow and subtle tan.
CvM: What are your daily routines for well being?
PC-C: I go to Pilates once a week, I run every Sunday, and I watch what I eat. I do not eat meat – I eat a lot of fruits and vegetables instead.
My beauty routine is very important, starting in the morning. I wash my face with Clarins Gentle Foaming Cleanser with Cottonseed, and then I apply Clarins Toning Lotion with Chamomile to my face. Afterwards, I use Clarins Double Serum both during the day and at night along with Clarins Multi Active Day and Night creams.
During the summer, I add three drops of Golden Glow Booster in my day cream to give my skin a beautiful glow and subtle tan. I exfoliate my face with Clarins One Step Gentle Exfoliating Cleanser in order to get rid of all excess dead skin cells, so that my skin is more receptive to the active ingredients in the serum and creams.
On my body, I use Clarins Body Lift Cellulite Control every morning, and Tonic Body Oil every night – its scent is truly amazing.
CvM: Your grandfather was truly an exceptional man – a pioneer in his approach to beauty, health and well being. It seems he has transmitted this to his children and grandchildren. Do you have specific beauty advice you learned from him that you can share with us?
PC-C: When I was a little girl, my grandfather taught me so many things and always involved me in important decisions such as determining names for new skincare products, their textures, their scents, etc.
The best and most useful advice I can give you to prevent wrinkles would be to follow the application technique that is true to Clarins: to never displace, rub or stretch the skin while applying serum or cream to your face. All you need is a light pressing motion until the product has completely penetrated into your skin.
Also, you need to protect your skin from the sun, exercise and eat healthy food.
Body creams and oils should always be applied by lightly massaging your body from the bottom working upwards: “from the ankle to the heart” to activate the bloodstream.
CvM: Which beauty products will we find in your suitcase this summer?
PC-C: Clarins Double Serum is my obsession! Golden Glow Booster too, obviously! It’s a very convenient product to carry with you, and it gives you a superb natural glowing tan. And of course let’s not forget every product from the Sun and After-Sun lines!
CvM: It will soon be Clarins’ 60th anniversary. Can you reveal if a celebration has been planned for this occasion?
PC-C: A superb spa treatment will be created for the brand’s 60th anniversary.
