Fresh-Faced French Beauty with Violette

This artist-turned-beauty influencer has developed a no-nonsense approach to makeup that is both free-spirited and self-assured.

BWB’s 35-50 Beauty Ambassador: Violette, Creative Director

Our Parisienne Brooklyn-based beauty guru is back and better than ever. We first met Violette shortly after Estée Lauder appointed her as its Global Beauty Director. In just two years, Violette has doubled her number of subscribers on YouTube and launched a limited edition makeup collection called Poppy Sauvage. And in the midst of her booming career, she also gave birth to her baby, Inès, and dished on post-baby beauty with Vogue. Now, Violette independently creative directs for product development, magazine shoots, campaigns, and lookbooks for her clients.

This artist-turned-beauty influencer has developed a no-nonsense approach to makeup that is both free-spirited and self-assured. Like our very own Clémence, Violette is a fierce Frenchie who likes to keep it au naturel. Learn a thing or two about how to keep your beauty fresh & fabulous as you enter your thirties.

YOUR BEAUTY

A product that is always in your handbag

Aveda Lip Saver and Estée Lauder Pure Color Envy Paint-On Liquid Lip Color in Poppy Sauvage.

Your signature scent

In Fiore Baisers de Jasmin.

Your beauty icon

I love all women so there is no specific icon of mine!

Your skincare savior

In Fiore and Biologique Recherche are my go-to’s. I’ve been using the Fleur Vibrante Serum Cerate and Masque Vivant for years. The serum launched a few months ago and it became my number one product. I will never not use it in my routine. It’s simply the best!

Your favorite beauty trend, past or present

I’m anti-trends; I don’t even know what’s trendy! Beauty should be about how you feel. Trends are far from my beauty philosophy. I want people to use makeup as a mood lifter and a way to celebrate themselves.

YOUR LIFESTYLE

How you take your coffee in the morning

I had one coffee in my life and somehow I hated it so much I never had one again. My version of coffee is a matcha latte with almond milk. It gives me the energy I need and it has a very comforting texture and flavor.

How you stay active

To be honest, I haven’t worked out in months because of work and the baby. But, I’m really excited because I got an office not too far from my home. My one criteria is to bike to work. It’s 30 minutes for myself.

Your guilty pleasure

Having pleasure in my life is very healthy, so I have no guilt. That being said, my favorite thing to do is to have an apéro with friends. I’ve been missing this French habit ever since I had the baby. In France, we usually have one at 6 p.m. to celebrate the end of the day! Simple moments like having breakfast with my family, watching the sunset, and eating good food all bring me pleasure.

Your wellness regimen

I try to eat as healthy as I can and go to bed early, so that I can wake up refreshed and seize the day. Mental health is a wellness tool in itself for me, so I try to stay conscious of my own. I try to focus on the positive, even during difficult times. I also surround myself with extremely positive people who always uplift my spirits. In addition:

  1. I use a tongue scratcher as soon as I wake up to avoid ingesting any toxins that built up overnight.
  2. Brush teeth, have big glass of water, and take a cold shower.
  3. Lymphatic drainage. It’s the best wellnesspractice.

YOUR CAREER

Best advice you’ve ever received

Give yourself four years. If it doesn’t work out, move on to something else. I was extremely focused and nothing else mattered. I had a goal and I was determined to make this work.

Where you see yourself in 5-10 years…

Hopefully with a second child – that’s my dream! Maybe we’ll be back in Paris with my little family. I have big plans for my work, but I also trust the universe will lead me to where I am supposed to go. So let’s see!

What you would say to your younger self

Nothing really, because even though I made mistakes, they taught me and made me who I am. I would just want to give her a big hug and let her know that it’s all worth it!

How you see the place of women in society today

Honestly, I’m a bit unsure of anything since Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s passing and the current state of our government. It all depends on what’s going to happen in the next election for America. I’m really hoping that the world will keep evolving and not go backwards.

I’m happy to see things like the #MeToo movement, and leaders fighting for our rights. There’s so much more to do, and people need awareness. I’m hopeful we will see more of that.
