New Year, Younger You

It’s a new year. Take out the champagne, the new glittery dress and toast to a new start with new resolutions…

After the fun, frolicking festivity winds down, you have to accept the next day’s cold reality: you’ve added another year to the tally. Before you despair, though, you should know there’s a new, cutting-edge biotech company that can help you rewind the clock and shed unwanted years (cell years, that is).

Telomere Diagnostics is a promising new biotech company in Menlo Park, California. Their founder, Elizabeth Blackburn won a Nobel Prize in 2009 for her discovery of the function of the enzyme telomerase. While she’s no longer with the company, Telomere Diagnostics has continued her groundbreaking research, which serves as the basis for all their new biotechnology.

Their signature revolutionary product is TeloYears, which computes your body’s cellular age by scanning a small sample of your blood and measuring the length of your telomeres compared to those of your peers.

Telomeres are the protective caps at the end of your chromosomes that contain our DNA strands. Our cells tend to reproduce easily when we’re young, so our telomeres are longer. Over time, however, telomeres tend to shorten and fray.

Telomeres can be negatively affected by oxidative stress, cumulative damage caused when the body can’t detoxify harmful environmental toxins.

Telomeres can also be negatively affected by oxidative stress, cumulative damage caused when the body can’t detoxify harmful environmental toxins. Common stressors include poor diet, excessive alcohol consumption, and exposure to pollutants, like traffic fumes and cigarette smoke. These stressors often cause telomeres to shorten more rapidly or go into a state of arrested growth and premature old age.

Shorter than average telomeres can be a warning sign of future health problems, indicating an increased susceptibility to chronic diseases like heart disease, cancer, Alzheimer’s and diabetes. Measuring telomere length is one way to gauge your body’s health and resilience.

The process is simple. Register on the site for $89, receive a sample collection kit, and follow some easy instructions. You collect a single drop of blood at home and mail back your sample. Scientists at Telomere Diagnostics use the sample to measure your telomere length. A few weeks later, voila! Your test results arrive.

Along with your report, you receive a guide detailing the changes you need to make to reverse your body’s cellular aging.

Along with your report, you receive a guide detailing the changes you need to make to reverse your body’s cellular aging. This guide, TeloYears Guide to Aging Well, contains a self-assessment tool and a comprehensive review of the science of telomeres, one that’s steadily evolved since the 1930s. It also includes an action plan that makes their recommended lifestyle changes more achievable.

The TeloYears Guide to Aging Well also provides instructions on how to protect yourself from toxins, makes recommendations for your diet (what foods to eat), sleep (7-8 hours a night), physical activity (which types and why) and how to lower stress (yoga and meditation).

Celebrate the New Year knowing that there’s finally a product that can reverse the aging process. You’ll soon be toasting to a new, more radiant and many (telo) years younger – you.
