In the spirit of trying the latest trends, we turned to Gyrotonic for a non-linear workout, and the MELT Method for a new way to heal the body of aches.
Have you heard of them?

If you’re feeling stiff, try Gyrotonic!
Picture a cross between yoga and martial arts, but on a pulley machine. Stay with us, it will make sense shortly!
But first, how is it non-linear?
The exercise focuses on the body’s rotation and organic flow. Movements range from ballet, tai chi, swimming, and gymnastics inspired techniques.

“The way Gyrotonic is designed is so that you’re continuously moving,”

says Matt Aversa, vice president at Gyrotonic® International Headquarters.

“The fundamental machine in the system is the pulley tower combination unit, it’s a T-shaped bench where there are rotating discs. Using the handles, you do movements on the rotating discs that move in a circular motion. The tower component allows for upper pulleys, or middle/lower pulleys. Either your hands or feet go into the handles, and you can do it standing or sitting.”

The benefit of the continuous movement is that it’s how your body is designed to move naturally. The result? ‘Strong, but free muscles,’ says Aversa.

It’s a full-body workout. Check out this video to see what we mean (you can skip ahead to 4 minutes).

Additionally, the exercises are unique with all sorts of possibilities and endless varieties.

“Perfect for anyone with joint issues since the movements on the equipment facilitate fluid articulations without any impact. Gyrotonic is diverse in its application. So anyone from the elderly to athletes in training to the general public are doing it.”

Benefits of MELT include falling asleep more easily, and sleeping more soundly, better posture, and even shedding excess body fat.

For achy backs we tried the MELT Method.
Created by manual therapist and connective tissue specialist Sue Hitzmann, MELT introduces a new concept in relieving tension and stress.
It’s a self-treatment program that addresses connective tissue.

“Using specialized techniques, a soft body roller, and four different small balls, MELT rehydrates the connective tissue, rebalances the nervous system, and restores space to compressed joints.”

These tools are used to decompress your neck, lower back, and the joints of your spine, hands, and feet.
According to the website, applying the method allows you to ‘release the joint compression that contributes to chronic pain, inflammation, and discomfort with these powerful techniques.’

Melt Method

Benefits of MELT include falling asleep more easily, and sleeping more soundly, better posture, and even shedding excess body fat.
The method is recommended to do three times a week for ten minutes.
In Layman’s terms, by rolling and pressing certain areas, you’re rehydrating the connective tissue. Instructions are easy to follow, but classes are also available. You can search them here.
Et voilà, now you have two new tools to end muscle, bone and joint pain.
