Could you tell us more about the brand Saje Natural Wellness and what makes it unique?

We are North America’s leader in plant-derived essential oil products that help you feel better, naturally. We started in Vancouver in 1992 with five blends and have now grown to a product line of over 500 100% natural, essential oil-based products. We’re a company built on outrageous customer service and accessible wellness for all. We strive to educate our Community Members on the healing power of plants. Our commitment to making people feel better isn’t just a concept at Saje: it’s a core pillar of our business plan and part of how we measure success.

The Environmental Working Group (EWG) estimates that only 7% of today’s cleaning products adequately disclose their contents to consumers

What are things that we can be more conscious of when it comes to choosing cleaning products?

Everyday we are exposed to more than 200 synthetic chemicals – through skin absorption from the personal care products we put on our skin and through the air we breathe outside and inside our homes, including toxins from cleaning products.

In addition, the Environmental Working Group (EWG) estimates that only 7% of today’s cleaning products adequately disclose their contents to consumers—this includes even “green” cleaning lines—which means we’re exposing ourselves and our families to these harmful ingredients without even knowing it.

What people need to be very cautious of are product labels that include words like; “contains” or “beneficial ingredients” because these are words that make it possible for harmful synthetics to end up on “natural” ingredient list.

How can we better educate people on the harmful effects of certain ingredients that are found in most cleaning products?

The best way to educate ourselves and community members on the harmful effects of certain ingredients is to read the labels and ask questions. We believe consumers deserve more than a label that doesn’t list every ingredient. If you find one that doesn’t – ask or don’t buy it! Often, we’re intimidated by ingredient lists that are so long and filled with words we can’t pronounce. You might see brands you trust use claims like; “contains Aloe Vera,” “contains Lavender” or “eco-friendly” so you still go ahead and buy the product without taking the time to ask; “what else is in there?” To start, 53% of cleaning products under review contain lung-harming ingredients, 22% contain chemicals reportedly linked to asthma and an alarming amount of cleaning products contain carcinogens like formaldehyde and chloroform that have been linked to cancer.

Could you share with our readers some tips on how to make greener and safer choices in their everyday lives ?

A recurring question we asked ourselves throughout the development of this line was; ‘can it go to any recycling depot?’ A lot of the population probably doesn’t realize that recycling depots are not “one size fits all” and in fact, most of the cleaning products on the shelves today have specific breakdown restrictions that not every depot can facilitate. We made absolute certain that all of our packaging in this line can be broken down at any recycling facility.

If we had to start with 3 cleaning products from Saje Natural Wellness, which ones would you recommend?

Multi Clean – This all-purpose cleaner can be used on a plethora of surfaces, including kitchen counters, skins, cupboards, and more. Knowing that you’re cleaning many areas of your home with 100% natural ingredients means you can spend more quality time with your family members—even the furry ones—and less time worrying out their safety.

Dish Wish – Gentle on your hands and powerful on grease, this SLS-free dish soap gets your dirty work done without the use of harmful toxins. To make this product as green as can be without losing its efficacy, we used a breakthrough ingredient called Sodium laurylglucosides hydroxypropylsulfonate. This ingredient is more than a mouthful, it’s foam-full of natural cleaning power derived from fruits and vegetables. This natural sugar compound is known for its emulsifying, foam-boosting properties and its gentleness on the skin.

Glistening Glass – It’s tough enough to get a streak-free shine, a 100% natural one. Glistening Glass cleans more than just your mirrors and windows, it can also be used to make your household fixtures sparkle and shine. With this formulation we used a non-toxic and biodegradable ingredient that was made from renewable, raw materials.

What’s next for Saje Natural Wellness?

Focusing on ways to expand our vision of global wellness remains at the heart of what we do. We’ve always understood the value of natural product education, human connection and experience. We use all this to develop creative ways to make natural wellness even more accessible to new and existing community members. We’ve made some exciting announcements in 2018… beginning with expanding our e-commerce presence onto Amazon.com, the launch of our Well Now podcast and new product lines, such as Clean Cleaning. Our community members can expect the same continued trajectory throughout the year.
