Martina Mondadori Sartogo founder of Cabana Magazine

Exclusive interview with the founder of Cabana Magazine

Beauty and Well-Being had the pleasure of interviewing the stunning Martina Mondadori Sartogo, the founder of the luxurious, London-based Cabana Magazine.

___________

What was your inspiration for creating the innovative and fabulous Cabana Magazine?

My main inspiration was the house where I grew up in Milan which was decorated by Renzo Mongiardino. It was full of patterns and references to India and Persia and filled with many exquisite objects. My other constant inspiration is travel.

What is your vision for Cabana?

The idea is that a house is a home. We want to show places that have a soul. Through this we want to build a visual world that extends to tabletop collections, events, and products.

Someone who inspires you?

It is a long list! Renzo Mongiardino, Rudolf Nureyev, Umberto Pasti, Lee Radziwill and Yves Saint Laurent, to name a few. I also love my friend Alessandro Michele’s vision for Gucci.

Let’s talk about the Cabana covers.

For each issue we have a partner and we ask them to send us as many patterns and fabrics as possible. We want our reader to be curious and consider Cabana as a collectible item. As each magazine has a different piece and cut of fabric, each single magazine is actually unique!

Your advice for women starting their own companies?

Be passionate and have a dream! Don’t listen to other women saying that you cannot manage life with family and work. Stick to your project!

Your favorite summer beauty products?

I love Sisley and La Roche-Posay products. I cannot live without a serum that is made by an apothecary in Dobbiaco, north of Venice. I put it under my sun screen and it keeps the skin hydrated all day long.

Your summertime essentials?

Good books. It is that one time of the year when I literally devour them.

Favorite summertime fragrance?

Diptyque Philosykos

Your personal tips for the frequent traveller?

Water, water, water! Good in-flight entertainment. I tend to download my own before embarking on a long flight!

On your nightstand?

The first issue of Cabana and vintage books. I currently have a very interesting and fun 1920 edition of Woman as Decoration by Emily Burbank.

Favorite summer traditions?

The time I spend with my family at my mum’s house in Cortina in the mountains. It is such a healthy lifestyle and hiking is one of my favorite things.
