Pretty, pretty Clémence has written a charming new book, Ageless Beauty the French Way: Secrets from Three Generations of French Beauty Editors, and though I am allergic to most how-the-French-do-it books, I did like this one. It is chock-full of excellent advice she learned from her mother and grandmother, both of whom were beauty editors for French Vogue. Here, she runs down her favorite beauty splurges and bargains.

“The Ulta beauty blender sponge has become an indispensable makeup tool that perfectly applies my concealer.”

“I also love Shiseido Facial Cotton for its extra soft texture.”

“Another one of my favorites is Bye Bye Under Eye by It Cosmetics. Once you have applied this genius concealer, it erases any traces left from a late party the night before. On top, I like to dab on some YSL Touche Éclat. Not only is it a concealer, but also a light reflector that makes your skin come alive. It is one of my splurge products but it is really worth it. It is also one of my mother’s favorite makeup products.”

“Growing up in Paris, I used to go to the local pharmacy to buy most of my skincare products and I have really enjoyed finding most of these brands at Duane Reade, my New York local drugstore. These include the Avène Micellar Lotion and Avène Thermal Spring Water (an essential step in my cleansing routine!). The Lotion is very gentle, it leaves my skin soft and moisturized after I apply it. As for the Thermal Water, it has now become part of my morning and evening routine to spray some of it on my face before I apply my moisturizer or serum. It soothes and softens the skin. It is also a natural way also to bring some hydration.”

“For the shower: Just taking a few minutes to apply some Clarins Tonic Body Treatment Oil on my body and pampering myself makes me feel more energized.
