What is the Best Sunscreen for My Skin Type?

Bring on the SPF!

When I think of an ideal summer day, my mind wanders to beachside afternoons. Lounging under a striped umbrella with a great novel in hand. Now that places are slowly opening back up, sunscreen needs to be part of your skincare routine. No matter where you are or how cloudy it is, the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) radiation still causes damage. In fact, the Skin Cancer Organization notes that the sun causes an estimated 90 percent of skin aging.

Good thing we have sunscreen to save us! Not only does daily SPF help prevent wrinkles and age spots, but it also decreases the risk of skin cancers. Read on for some of our favorite sunscreens for every skin type and lifestyle.

Firming and Lifting

EVE LOM Daily Protection SPF 50

Think of this product as the classic white T-shirt of sunscreens. In other words, it’s made for everyone, it’s easy to wear, and it’s versatile. Made for all skin types and tones, the lightweight formula applies well under makeup and has a multitude of benefits. While the main purpose is sun protection, it also firms and lifts the skin while protecting against pollution. Apply it 30 minutes before stepping out and reapply every two hours to stay on the safe side.

Protecting Against Blue Light

Guinot Sun Logic Face and Body Cream SPF 30

The sun’s UV rays are strongest between 10am and 4pm according to research, but damage can still happen during off-hours. Guinot’s Sun Logic contains solar filters to combat UVA and UVB. While UVA is a longer wavelength associated with skin aging, UVB is a shorter wavelength that can cause skin burning. One of the main reasons why I love this product is its protection against blue light rays, too. So, even if you’re indoors typing away on your computer, a little drop of this sunscreen goes a long way.

Pre-Makeup Ease

Lancôme UV Expert Aquagel Defense SPF 50

Indulge in the cooling sensation of this sunscreen-meets-face primer. Especially on hot and humid days, the super lightweight formula rescues skin by providing a healthy serving of hydration. Although it’s white, it dissolves quickly into your skin without any residue. You can carry on with the rest of your makeup routine in no time thanks to its luscious gel texture.

Treating Acne-Prone Skin

Elta MD UV Clear Broad-Spectrum SPF 46

Sensitive skin types, this one’s for you. Elta MD’s UV Clear Broad-Spectrum SPF 46 helps calm and protect skin that is prone to acne and hyperpigmentation. The tinted version helps the formula blend into your skin without leaving residue. Press the airless pump to fill your skin with key ingredients. We’re talking niacinamide (vitamin B3), hyaluronic acid, and lactic acid, all of which promote a healthier complexion and sun protection.

Hydration, Hydration, Hydration

Peter Thomas Roth Water Drench Broad-Spectrum SPF 45 Hyaluronic Cloud Moisturizer

Do you know the proper amount of sunscreen you need to protect your face? A fourth to a half teaspoon of sunscreen! More than you thought? Be sure to lather up on an effective SPF like this one from Peter Thomas Roth. UVA rays may peek through car windows and even home windows, so you have to ensure coverage! This soft cream-to-water product is especially unique for its power to hydrate skin up to 72 hours.

Active Lifestyles

PCA Skin Active Protection Body Broad Spectrum SPF 30

This water-resistant SPF has all the bases covered, on the field and off. PCA’s SPF is ideal for those who love the beach, playing outdoor sports, or taking strolls around the neighborhood. The non-aerosol spray bottle covers hard-to-reach places like your back and protects skin for 80 minutes. In fact, it continue to work hard for your skin in water or in sweat. The formula appears white during application so you are able to see your coverage. Then, it dries clear and you can rub it in to blend.

Correcting Signs of Aging

Ava Isa Sun-è-Serum Drops SPF 35

A mineral sunscreen in serum form? Yes, it exists. This silky smooth product is one of the most innovative launches I’ve seen lately. It contains Micah, a potent antioxidant that corrects signs of aging and reduces the negative effects of blue light. And remember, sun protection doesn’t just stop at applying sunscreen. Wear sunglasses, bring a hat, sit in the shade, and visit a dermatologist annually! All these habits work hand-in-hand to keep your skin looking and feeling healthy.
