Look here is Tom’s inspiration” exclaims make-up artist du jour Charlotte Tilbury backstage at Tom Ford’s SS15 show…(the inimitable Carine Roitfield enters the room).

The hair, the eyes; this is what we wished we woke up with, it’s super cool yes but on the right side of polished, it’s rock chic.”

A smokey eye? check. Velvety skin? check. Textured bed head? check. A heavy dose of attitude? Absolutely.
This season, forget pretty flicks, retro liner wings, can-died lips and an all-american glow.
Instead take your inspiration straight from the nineties, bend the beauty rules and add some rebellious accents to your look.

You can never have too much mascara with this Rock Chic look – so apply lashing to the top and bottom lashes for instant full fast lashes.

THE REBEL EYE

Joan Jett, Chrissie Hinde and Kate Moss – women that exude coolness, coupled with lashings of nonchalance and a certain je ne sais quoi. They are also the inspiration behind the classic smoky eye and the perfect partner for the season’s paired back natural palette.
Case in point, Tom Ford’s SS15 deeply rich and glitter-infused smokey eye.
This look is exquisite, sultry and ever so naughty,” explains Tilbury who headed up backstage at the London show.

I prepped the girl’s eye by curling the lashes for 10 seconds on each eye. Next, I applied a moody-gunmetal eyeshadow across each lid, blended it out towards the brow bone and into the socket. Definition and focus was applied with the MAC Graphic black eye pencil along the lash line and into the waterline. Next step was to softly blend the liner into the steel cream eye shadow. It’s a nod back to the 80s but still an incredibly modern look that’s very now and oozes sex appeal, declares McKnight.

OFF-DUTY HAIR

Tousled, carefree hair is the ultimate accessory for any rock chick.
The key ingredients? Aim for undone low-fi waves and a dash of well-spaced colour. Most importantly, this signature style requires a distressed texture reminiscent of second-day effect hair.

How to recreate this illusive ‘just got out of bed’ look without, well, relying on your bed as a stylist?
For the perfect amount of texture and lustrous shine, do as Hair Supremo Sam McKnight did at Tom Ford and work Oribe’s Dry Texturizing Spray through hair to make your locks malleable for a trussed-up finish and kinks in all the right places.
For locks that require shape use a tong, such as T3 Body Waver Styling Wand to create natural looking waves in sections, wind hair around the barrel and hold for 30 seconds. Most effective on a mid-to-long length cut but if your tresses are on the shorter side opt for a razor-cut shaggy bob with a sweeping side part and fringe, the razor gives hair a super blunt rocker edge à la rock’n’roll icon Debbie Harry. “It’s a nod back to the 80s but still an incredibly modern look that’s very now and oozes sex appeal”, declares McKnight.

A quick one minute facial massage not only gives skin a radiant glow that cannot be mimicked by make-up but it also helps product to glide on the skin all that more effortlessly.

BACK TO MATTE SKIN

You want your rebellious, graphic eyes to be the focal point of the look so skin needs to be intentionally flawless whilst still looking as natural as possible.
Start with the basics; your skin is the canvas to the look so it’s imperative to put in the groundwork.

Likened to a shot of expresso for the skin and regarded by its converts as better than botox, facial massage supercharges your skin, coaxing out new contours, defining and firming the face.

International Facialist Su-Man advises to use your palms, massaging from the corner of the nostrils outwards following underneath the cheekbones.
Massage 6 times finishing each movement at the edge of the hairline.

Next, any blemishes, redness or dark under-eye hues need to be concealed.
Place Hourglass Hidden Corrective Concealer around the eyes and nose and blend, follow with Chantecaille HD Perfecting Powder.

Your final flourish? The lip is all about balance. Follow Tilbury’s lead by creating a full, nude pout using Charlotte Tilbury K.I.S.S.I.N.G. Lipstick in Penelope Pink, “it completes the raucous-poised dynamic of the refined but undone Rock Chick”.
