“Look here is Tom’s inspiration” exclaims make-up artist du jour Charlotte Tilbury backstage at Tom Ford’s SS15 show…(the inimitable Carine Roitfield enters the room).
“The hair, the eyes; this is what we wished we woke up with, it’s super cool yes but on the right side of polished, it’s rock chic.”
A smokey eye? check. Velvety skin? check. Textured bed head? check. A heavy dose of attitude? Absolutely.
This season, forget pretty flicks, retro liner wings, can-died lips and an all-american glow.
Instead take your inspiration straight from the nineties, bend the beauty rules and add some rebellious accents to your look.

THE REBEL EYE
Joan Jett, Chrissie Hinde and Kate Moss – women that exude coolness, coupled with lashings of nonchalance and a certain je ne sais quoi. They are also the inspiration behind the classic smoky eye and the perfect partner for the season’s paired back natural palette.

“This look is exquisite, sultry and ever so naughty,” explains Tilbury who headed up backstage at the London show.
“I prepped the girl’s eye by curling the lashes for 10 seconds on each eye. Next, I applied a moody-gunmetal eyeshadow across each lid, blended it out towards the brow bone and into the socket. Definition and focus was applied with the MAC Graphic black eye pencil along the lash line and into the waterline. Next step was to softly blend the liner into the steel cream eye shadow. You can never have too much mascara with this Rock Chic look – so apply lashing to the top and bottom lashes for instant full fast lashes.”
It’s a nod back to the 80s but still an incredibly modern look that’s very now and oozes sex appeal, declares McKnight.
OFF-DUTY HAIR
Tousled, carefree hair is the ultimate accessory for any rock chick.
