Interview

with Lauren Santo Domingo

We met to talk about fashion, beauty and travels to South America.

This month we had the pleasure of teaming up with the chic entrepreneur Lauren Santo Domingo for one of our exclusive Rendez-Vous features.
For many years, Lauren has been working with the biggest names of the fashion industry so starting her firm Moda Operandi seems like it was always meant to be.
Moda curates online designer trunk shows and allows shoppers to pre-order the next season’s collection straight from the runway.
The success in the U.S has been so big that our young businesswoman decided to open a showroom in London as a European addition to its New York hub.
We met to talk about fashion, beauty and travels to South America.

BWB: Spring-Summer is around the corner; what are the colors and hues of the season?

Yellow, head to toe white, and fifty shades of green (Moss, army, olive, etc.)

Whether I am in the tropics, or on the beach in New England, Rosie Assoulin is my favorite designer for warm temperatures.

BWB: What must-have items have you already spotted for the season?

I like to choose a few good things. I ask myself, when will I wear it and what will I wear it with?
Most importantly, will I like it 2-3 months from now?
I preordered swimsuits from Été Swim and Kiini to arrive right before my holiday.
Whether I am in the tropics, or on the beach in New England, Rosie Assoulin is my favorite designer for warm temperatures. I just ordered this dress. I could wear it to a charity event, or perhaps a wedding or two this summer.

BWB: What is the ideal outfit to go straight from work to a cocktail party?

I prefer a personal style where nothing feels overworked, no matter the occasion.
For the evening? Heels of course, a fringe pencil skirt (à la Thakoon SS15) with a blouse comes to mind.

Or something simple like this Isa Arfen look.

BWB: What is your go-to outfit on weekends?

A blue and white button down, which is my uniform since having children.

BWB: Where in Colombia do you stay over the holidays?

My husband and I have a home in Islas del Rosario, off the coast of Colombia near Cartagena.
It is truly one of my favorite places to vacation.

BWB: Can you share with our readers some of your favorites places there?

Cartagena is charming but still feels somehow undiscovered.
For dinner, it is often between Juan del Mar and La Vitrola.

BWB: Are there any beauty or fashion items that you love to buy there and bring back to NY?

Mochilas and pre-Colombia gold jewelry!
