What was your inspiration for starting your company?
In a way, it began by itself and somewhat organically. Decorating and entertaining are part of my DNA. Frankly, I am the same person I was when I was six years old and taking charge of every holiday, rearranging the living room on a seasonal basis. What started out as a favor to a friend led to other favors and the referrals quickly led to the business.
Whether I’m traveling in an exotic location or simply running around the corner for coffee, I am surrounded by creative inspiration at every turn.
How do you stay creative?
I try to pay attention and live in the present. Whether I’m traveling in an exotic location or simply running around the corner for coffee, I am surrounded by creative inspiration at every turn. Living in a hyper-connected world, we can readily share inspiration with a mere click.
Can you tell us more about your newly published book?
I always have a hard time describing the variety of things we do. I believe the book has successfully captured this. It’s partly a memoir and partly a visual photo fantasy. I’m over the moon about it and proud to say that I wrote every word.

What do you love most about San Francisco?
San Francisco is a mythical and magical place to live. Not a day goes by when I don’t get up to the top of a hill and have to catch my breath at the view. Other than the obvious physical attributes, I think the real appeal of the area is its collection of interesting folks. From old guard blue bloods, to tech titans, to boho artists, to world-class scientists, San Francisco boasts an intoxicating mix of residents that all manage to live in harmony.
What is your favorite go-to lunch place in San Francisco?
Zuni Cafe. A dozen oysters and a margarita straight up.
A night out on the town?
I love live music wherever I can get it. Some of my favorite haunts are the Boom Boom Room, Café du Nord, and Bottom of The Hill.
Your perfect outfit?
This really depends where I am. In the city, I always dress up. I usually wear a custom patterned suit, handmade shoes, and a hand-tied bow tie. At the ranch, it’s vintage denim, my favorite pair of boots, and a classic T-shirt.
In my hand luggage, I carry a phone charger, Advil, sunglasses, a toothbrush, face lotion, and a noise cancelling headset.
Travel secrets for your busy schedule?
I never check a bag, unless it’s purely a vacation. I literally plan each day/outfit and pack accordingly. Ideally, I try to include items that can be worn multiple times with different looks. In my hand luggage, I carry a phone charger, Advil, sunglasses, a toothbrush, face lotion, and a noise cancelling headset.
Must have skincare products?
I am a fan of the Tatcha Revitalizing Eye Mask after a long night or a long flight. I also use Kiehl’s Eye Alert for a little lift me up, and Peter Thomas Roth’s Max Anti-Shine Mattifying Gel to get rid of the shiny face syndrome.
Favorite cologne?
Leather Oud by Christian Dior.
Favorite Christmas tradition?
We spend Christmas with dear friends at a great lodge in Montana. We typically rise early and make a ridiculously large breakfast with homemade waffles along with bloodies and mimosas. We then hit the slopes for a couple of hours before returning home to open gifts by a roaring fire. It’s all very cinematic—exactly how I like my holidays!
