Ethical Elegance at Maison de Mode

Maison de Mode is your one-stop shop for guilt-free high fashion sans waste, avec extra glamour.

Maison de Mode is your one-stop shop for guilt-free high fashion sans waste, avec extra glamour. Ethical fashion extraordinaire, Amanda Hearst, opened the first MAISON DE MODE concept pop-up with Hassan Pierre in December of 2012. Eight years later, Heart has one of the most fabulous and earth-friendly closets on the planet—and you can easily shop from all her favorites online! From floral mules to sequined clutches to boss-lady blazers, all of Hearst’s picks are organic, recycled, artisan, fair trade and cruelty-free.

After peeking into Hearst’s sustainable chic style, BWB sat down with her to explore her day-to-day life, her business dreams, and her personal philosophies of sustainability.

YOUR DAY

Morning routine?

A soy latte and a pilates session!

One eco-friendly choice you make every day?

Buying less and knowing where every thing I buy comes from.

By your bed?

My Bib & Sola Marta Water Glass.

YOUR STYLE

Favorite item in your closet?

Currently, it is my N-Duo Trench!

Day-to-night outfit?

Something feminine that doesn’t compromise my comfort. Most days, I am on the move. As such, I like to wear a pair of jeans or skirt from ética with a St. Roche Blouse and Yatay sneakers. At night, I would add some earrings and switch out my sneakers pumps from Nak.

Go-to work ensemble?

Chic dress or matching two-piece ensemble or blue jeans with a white T-shirt dressed up with my favorite fine jewelry pieces, vegan shoes, and a handbag.

YOUR CITY

What you love most?

The weather!

Go-to lunch spot?

E Baldi and Polo Lounge.

Favorite stores to shop at?

Stella McCartney, Mother of Pearl and of course, Maison de Mode!

YOUR BUSINESS

In what ways has having a business partner helped with running your company?

We balance out each other’s strengths and weaknesses. Teamwork makes the dream work!

Your take on the future of fashion and sustainability?

I think that sustainability IS the future of fashion! Slow fashion will be the only kind of fashion.

Upcoming projects in store for Maison de Mode?

We have our Future of Fashion Summit in May, where we bring together industry leaders to discuss relevant issues facing fashion. Also, we are expanding the consulting arm of our company MODE COMMUNICATIONS, offering event planning, pop-up production, styling, and consulting all with a focus on sustainability for all brands in media, tech, talent, food, and fashion.
