This summer, give your skin and hair a real pampering with new BWB-tested beauty masks. Whether designed for the hair or the face, beauty masks provide hydration and help prevent dryness. They also embellish and prolong the benefits of the summer sun.

To maintain plump and smooth skin

By mid-summer, our complexion is generally at its best. Blessed by a golden tan, our skin thickens in order to protect itself from the sun. This thickness has the advantage of blurring imperfections, but unfortunately makes skin dryer. Using a mask can provide the skin with the hydration and vitamin dosage it needs. You may choose to use a melting gel, or a balm. Select the texture which seems more appropriate for your skin type.

Travel size products are conveniently small, and come with pre-cut cloth masks that can be purchased individually. These masks are often moistened with an ultra-hydrating serum and you just apply them on your face for about 20 minutes. Because you have to be still and lay on your back, these 20 minutes give you an excuse for some real “me time.” Take this opportunity to silence your phone or listen to a meditation session on a free app like Calm. After taking the cloth mask off, softly massage the excess product on your neck, décolletage and even on the top of your hands.

Our favorites:

Filorga Hydra-Filler Mask
With organic ingredients including Vitamin A, Vitamin C, and aloe vera, the Filorga Hydra-Filler Mask uses a combination of hyaluronic acid and natural moisturizing factors to plump and hydrate skin. Give it just fifteen minutes and you’ll see signs of aging, dryness, and puffiness melt away.

Chantecaille Gold Energizing Eye Recovery Mask
Gold is not just made for your jewelry– it also has some great soothing and antioxidant properties! This seaweed-based mask uses a 24 Karat Gold Serum to revitalize and moisturize the tender skin underneath your eye. Apply for twenty minutes and a follow with an eye cream for best results in eliminating dark circles, smoothing out wrinkles, and giving your skin a 24 Karat shine.

Innisfree It’s Real Squeeze Sheet Mask
Filled with naturally-derived ingredients from the lush island of Jeju, the Innisfree sheet mask enhances skin with fresh nutrients and amino acids without stripping it of its natural protective oils. Choose from an array of fruit and herbal essences such as green tea, honey, shea, pomegranate, and acai berry.

Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Concentrated Recovery PowerFoil Mask
If city life and long work days are clogging your pores, the Estée Lauder PowerFoil Mask is the perfect way to renew your skin and reset. The foil design helps the hydration serum penetrate deep into your skin and rejuvenate dry skin from the inside out.

For shiny hair (and long-lasting coloration)

The hair often gets damaged in the summer because of frequent washing, salt water, chlorine, and UV exposure. For these reasons, it is essential to include hydrating treatments in your routine.

Apply a mask to your hair after thoroughly towel drying (so the product will stick). Take your time, applying delicately from mid-length down. If you want to use a comb, use one with large teeth, as wet hair is more sensitive and needs to be treated gently. These steps might take more time, but they are worth it. One hair moistening mask a week will protect both the hair and its color. Our advice: do not leave in the mask overnight. It might become too difficult to rinse, which and this would lead to a more aggressive washing and cancel potential benefits.

Our favorites:

Christophe Robin Regenerating Mask
Rich in Vitamin E and Omega 6, prickly pear seed oil has anti-inflammatory properties ideal for nourishing your scalp and rebuilding strong, healthy hair. The sun may be shining bright this summer, but this mask will help your hair shine brighter whether you have natural or color-treated hair.

Leonor Greyl Nourishing Mask
Is your hair feeling thinner or drier than normal? Give your tresses a boost and a relief from the heat with plant oils, proteins, amino acids, and a touch of jasmine. Get soft and shiny hair without the grease or extra weight through either daily or weekly use.

Macadamia Natural Oil
Give dry or damaged hair some TLC with a nourishing combination of macadamia, argan oil, tea tree oil, chamomile oil, aloe, and algae extracts. Comb gently through wet hair to ensure longer-lasting bounce, shine, and hydration.
