Byredo
Authentic, comforting, yet extremely luxurious aromas to complement your every day.
Every scent has a story to tell. To one, the smell of sheets warm from the dryer or toast buttered with cinnamon-sugar might define childhood afternoons. To another, worn leather and gasoline stains may beckon the memory of a high school boyfriend in his pick-up.
It is these very real experiences that have inspired the now famous Byredo fragrances. The Swedish fragrance company, founded ten years ago by Ben Gorham, handcrafts products from raw materials to produce authentic, comforting, yet extremely luxurious aromas to complement your every day.
After ten years, his business has spread across 52 countries. Even still, he crafts every product with the same care and intention as he did his first candle.
Growing up, Gorham’s multicultural background quickly weaved him an intricate life story. His Indian mother and half Scottish, half French father moved him about Sweden, Canada, and New York before he even graduated high school. With this unique perspective guiding him, he searched for a dream, going to school to study business, then switching to politics and then design before leaving to play professional basketball for a few years. Eventually, he returned to art school in Stockholm, only to graduate and find himself the pupil of a renowned perfumer in New York.
From there, he developed an interest in perfume that grew into a fully-grown passion to create simple, yet genuinely personal fragrances for the people of the world. After ten years, his business has spread across 52 countries. Even still, he crafts every product with the same care and intention as he did his first candle.
Every perfume he creates is an immediate success. According to Vogue, Byredo perfumes are a staple for every fashionable woman “in-the-know.”
Byredo’s first decade was one to be proud of, and Gorham decided to celebrate by creating something entirely original: the Byredo Unnamed fragrance. This perfume invites its users to link new, subjective experiences to the scent. The fragrance finds its power in the unique narratives that come to define it.
Gorham’s work has redefined perfume as something more than a fancy accessory: something that can not only summon a special memory, but also inspire new ones.
