LOLA the all-natural tampons you didn’t know you needed

The all-natural tampons you didn’t know you needed.

You know every ingredient in your favorite juice bar acai bowl, you scour nutrition labels looking for the dreaded s-s-s-sugar and you make sure no parabens touch your beautiful skin. Then, that time of the month rolls around and you rush to the pharmacy to pick up whatever shiny new tampon product catches your eye then insert it into one of the most absorbent parts of your body without a second thought. Do you know what’s in your tampon? If you’ve never even though to ask, don’t worry – you’re not alone. The FDA doesn’t require tampon companies to list ingredients on the label and, while women’s magazines love to talk about the rules of dating and favorite sexual positions, few are getting down and dirty to talk about periods.

The LOLA founders decided to finally make a product that would appeal to women looking for tampons as good for their bodies as their daily green smoothies and running routines.

LOLA founders Alex Friedman and Jordana Kier have singlehandedly changed the global feminine care market. The dynamic duo, both Dartmouth graduates with MBAs, have gotten women everywhere to start talking about a topic so ubiquitous yet ironically quite taboo, namely menstruation. Typical drug store tampons may contain artificial fibers like rayon and polyester and some unlisted ingredients that have been linked to higher risk of TSS. The LOLA founders decided to finally make a product that would appeal to women looking for tampons as good for their bodies as their daily green smoothies and running routines.

The tampons, made in Europe and packaged in the US, are unscented and free of all additives, synthetics, chemicals or dyes.

LOLA sells 100% cotton, organic tampons that arrive via subscription service automatically every month. You can even customize your own box with sizes ranging from light to super based on your personal flow. The tampons, made in Europe and packaged in the US, are unscented and free of all additives, synthetics, chemicals or dyes. They’re 100% organic, 100% biodegradable and designed for easy insertion and comfort. Plus, refreshingly NO pink or flowery packaging or girly gimmicks like many popular brands.

The products arrive in a simple, but elegant white and blue box and each individually-wrapped tampon looks more like a chic piece of French candy than a vehicle for absorbing vaginal blood.

Self-described as “a feminine care company by women for women,” LOLA has also launched a blog called The Broadcast on their website to specifically address women’s issues and their no-nonsense period talk combined with a powerful business model has earned the company a solid reputation in the female community. LOLA is also active in promoting feminine care for underserved populations. Starting this month, the company is partnering with Support the Girls, Distributing the Dignity and Simply the Basics to help provide tampons, pads and liners to shelters for homeless women, domestic violence survivors and foster care children all across the US. It’s the first initiative of its kind designed to provide feminine care specifically to these women. By the end of the month, LOLA will have donated 100,000 feminine care products to more than 70 shelters in 21 states and is only just beginning their movement.
