Carolina Herrera
We had the great pleasure of interviewing the style icon in New York City.
Carolina Herrera has brought to the fashion world true femininity and sophistication. Elegant, timeless and chic are three of the words constantly used to describe her fashion label since her debut more than 30 years ago.
Today her empire encompasses her signature fashion collection, a bridal collection, fragrances and accessories. As this month’s special issue celebrates Inspiring Women, we had the great pleasure of interviewing this style icon in New York City.
BWB: How do you design for women and what inspires you?
I love to design for the Herrera woman who is not afraid to be elegant and feminine. She is active, glamorous and chic.
You must always keep your eyes open; great things have a way of finding you if you do. Inspiration comes from anything and everything – a book you’ve read, a piece of art or even a beautiful landscape.
Elegance and sophistication are timeless qualities.
BWB: How can we teach the new generations that elegance is a positive and not outdated?
Trends come and go, but elegance and sophistication are timeless qualities. Many believe that elegance is about what you wear, but it isn’t only that, it’s how you carry yourself, how you speak, what you read and what you choose. It is a very feminine instinct to change, but women always go back to wanting to feel elegant, it’s in our nature.
BWB: We’ve noticed one of your favorite pieces is the white shirt. What are some of your other signature pieces you recommend we always have?
A flattering little black dress is something every woman should own. You can always take it from day to night by adding some jewelry or a great handbag. Accessories always change an outfit, so a wonderful pair of heels is a must as well – plus it can go with the little black dress!
BWB: What are some of your favorite makeup brands? Have you recently discovered any new products that you love?
I am in love with Herrera Confidential, my new fragrance, which I launched with my daughter, Carolina Herrera de Baez. It is made up of six fragrances and four oils of the finest quality and purity to be used individually or mixed to personalize the scent. My favorite is Tuberose infused with orange flower and vanilla!
A short flirty water print silk jacquard dress, sets the tone and the narrative for the season.
BWB: What are going to be the key ‘must haves’ this Fall/Winter?
I love the entire collection, but look one from the Fall runway collection, a short flirty water print silk jacquard dress, sets the tone and the narrative for the season. This dress is the perfect to stand out at any party.
This collection was inspired by water both nuanced and literal in color, pattern, shape and detail. Undulating seams and raised hemlines on short skirts, trousers and long dresses created a flirtatious silhouette for the season.
