A Yoga Sequence You Can Do With Your Man To Build Intimacy & Trust

As a yoga teacher, I hear it all the time from the women in my classes: “My boyfriend/husband won’t practice yoga….” and “I crave more connection with my man.” Well, maybe he’ll be inspired to try some of these poses with you.

You can stay in each of these poses as long as they feel good. Just like tantra and great sex, communication is key! Lean on each other, and talk about how to make each other feel really, really good.

Have fun with this sequence, and try a few poses to start, working your way up to the more advanced poses when you are both ready.

Tantric and partner yoga is a spiritual and sensual way to get more deeply connected with your partner, and an easy way to have him enjoy something that you love so much, without dragging him to a class! Have fun with this sequence, and try a few poses to start, working your way up to the more advanced poses when you are both ready.

Start this sequence seated back to back in a cross-legged position. Take 10 deep breaths together, matching your breaths. Invite the inhalations and exhalations to slowly travel up and down your spine, and feel each other breathing in harmony.

1) Twist

You’ll begin seated back to back in a comfortable cross-legged seat. Both you and your man will place your right hand on the other’s left thigh just above the knee and left hand on own right knee. Match your breathing with each other. On each inhale, sit up taller and lengthen through the spine, and on each exhale, deepen the twist. Come back through center on an inhale together, and repeat on the other side.

2) Begin seated back to back

Have your man extend his legs and lean forward into a fold (for tight hammies, bend knees slightly and place a rolled up blanket under knees for support). You’ll stay cross-legged or in a goddess pose with feet touching and knees out to side. Lean back onto your man’s back until you’re in a nice backbend and he feels a gentle pressure in a forward fold. Communicate and check in with him to make sure his legs and lower back are feeling good, especially if he’s particularly tight. Once you’ve had enough here (you may want to stay in that gorgeous backbend forever!) then switch it up and breathe deeply together again.

3) Acro yoga requires the strongest sense of trust and communication between partners

To begin, your man lies on his back, knees bent, legs lifted toward the sky. You’ll stand in front of him, clasping his hands and leaning into his feet, which he’ll place in your hip creases with toes slightly turned out for comfort. He’ll keep his arms strong as you lean your weight into his feet. With trust and a mutually communicated sense of security, he slowly extends his legs, and you take flight. If you feel comfortable here, he can extend his arms behind his head which will give you a nice deep backbend. Open your legs into a wide V for a nice inner thigh stretch. This pose cultivates a sense of stability, freedom and playfulness. If you feel comfortable and safe, release the hand clasp, lengthening your arms out to the sides, and enjoy another level of excitement! Have a soft surface to land on and remove any sharp objects from your surroundings, just in case!

4) Flying Dhanurasana

This pose takes the most trust and strength. An amazing back and heart opener, Flying Dhanurasana will leave you feeling blissful, and give your man’s hamstrings a great stretch. He’ll lie down on his back with knees bent and feet flat on the ground. You’ll stand facing away from him, near his feet. Then, he’ll place his feet firmly at your lower back with his heels resting on your glutes. Remember to trust him here, and synchronize your breathing. You’ll bend backward reaching with your arms, and he’ll reach and grabs onto your shoulders. He’ll begin to lift his legs straight into the air, lifting you off the ground at the same time.

You can bend your knees and grab your ankles with your hands in Bow Pose or enjoy here, relaxing and allowing the backbend to naturally happen. Communicate when you’re ready to come down and he’ll slowly lower you. It’s all about trust here!
