Minimalism for Your Life

Looking to declutter your life? Here’s everything you need to know about minimalism, and why it might be worth trying out.

Minimalist trends seem to be everywhere, from lifestyle blogs and vlogs to bestselling books like Marie Kondo’s The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up. It’s no wonder why so many of us are drawn to the idea of simplifying, slowing down, and connecting with ourselves. Minimalism is a relief from the breakneck pace of the world today, which can lead to stress, burnout, and disease.

The Minimalist Mantra

For me, minimalism isn’t about denying myself pleasure. It’s about removing the distractions that keep me from fully experiencing, enjoying, and connecting with moments.Minimalism affords people a self-control and self-awareness that opens the door to a healthier, more fulfilling life. It helps us to prioritize and connect to the essential things that matter with greater intentionality.

Material minimalism is a popular phenomenon with a number of benefits, butlifestyle minimalism is also gaining traction. This involves decluttering all the activities that are weighing you down. The pace of your life impacts the quality of your life, and changing your lifestyle can improve the quality of your life tenfold. Our modern Western lifestyle tends to be fixated on extreme productivity, followed by extreme gluttony to unwind. As a result, it can be difficult to create dedicated time for going inward.

Lifestyle minimalism is also gaining traction. This involves decluttering all the activities that are weighing you down.

Busyness fills space so we can avoid facing ourselves. Even when we experience the power of connecting to who we truly are, our lives quickly fill up with activity shortly after such enlightening experiences.Integrating morepresenceinto our day-to-day challenges is the key to creating more simplicity. Of course, we might experience fast-paced intervals, but we must be mindful of interspersing those moments with quiet and stillness. We have to remember that time is the true currency that matters. The “do, do, do” mentality can only take us so far…and the only thing that can bring us back to ourselves is presence.

Declutter and Detox

So how do you begin to embrace lifestyle minimalism? It begins with subtracting the distractions and complexities of your life. We often ignore these sources of stress. Here are some things you can do:

  1. Create more unstructured time and declutter your “busy” schedule.
  2. Reduce the amount of time you spend on unfulfilling relationships that do not enrich your life.
  3. Reduce the amount of time you spend on social media or gadgets in general.
  4. Generate a daily routine that includes your priorities and reflects your values. For example, if nature is a source of joy for you, make it a priority to take walks on the beach or go to your favorite park regularly.
  5. Use the periods of time after you wake up and before you go to sleep as sacred, slow time for intentional self-care.
Embrace the Process

Believe me: All of this is a balancing act that requires acknowledging the ways materialism distract and keep us from genuine fulfillment. You will get better and better at it over time, and your life will be extraordinarily satisfying.

Overall, minimalism encourages us to come back to the basics in our lives. You don’t haveto give up your full lifeand become an ascetic. However, you can consider that the comforts and habits you have in place are often not there by your own design. These outlets may not actually serve a sense of deeper purpose and fulfillment. In contrast, minimalism can offer you a greater sense of freedom, self-awareness, intentionality, and joy.
