Joanne Gerrard Young
Though she has gained notoriety for her impressive roster of celebrity clientele, including Gisele Bündchen and Tom Brady she is as humble, grounded, and open hearted as they come. Here is a peek into her food, beauty, and wellness favorites.
“Finding beauty in everything is easy once we realize that we are the beautiful creation of the Universe. We are beauty, we are Love. Realizing that we are all one and all connected enables us to open our hearts and really appreciate love for one another.” – Joanne Gerrard Young
Though she has gained notoriety for her impressive roster of celebrity clientele, including Gisele Bündchen and Tom Brady, celebrity chef Joanne Gerrard Young is as humble, grounded, and open hearted as they come. Joanne and I share a few mutual clients, so I made a point of meeting her on her recent visit to New York. I had the great honor to spend the afternoon with her in the kitchen and experience the master in her element. In the kitchen, Joanne floats from task to task much like a bee from flower to flower….floating, humming,….vibrant! When you taste her food, you are overcome with a wave of the life energy that she so easily transfers to her cooking. She is a master at creating the most perfect, yet surprisingly simple, flavor and nutrition combinations.
Here is a small peak into Joanne’s food and her life, beauty, and wellness favorites.
My mission is to help the planet (especially hospitals) realize that food is medicine and understand that it can help more people live pain-free lives.
YOUR INSPIRATION
For eating well…
The beautiful fresh, organic ingredients surrounding us here in Costa Rica are my inspiration. All kinds of fruits and superfoods grow everywhere throughout the year and we have access to really wonderful local organic produce.
For working out…
My Pilates teacher is Amazing! She inspires me to get to class to improve my posture and feel physically empowered.
For being a holistic chef …
I am inspired to help raise awareness that healthy, nourishing foods can be delicious and simple to prepare. My mission is to help the planet (especially hospitals) realize that food is medicine and understand that it can help more people live pain-free lives.
Self-care has become a priority for me this year, so now I make a point of putting aside “me time.”
YOUR LIFE
Personal passions…
Honoring my children, being in service to others, watching the sunset with my family and food are my biggest personal passions.
Favorite Travel spots…
The freshwater waterfalls in Montezuma, Tide Pools Mal Pais. Our favorite vacation is a “Staycation” travelling within Costa Rica.
Plans for the future…
I’m working on a new membership site with recipes, videos, interviews, meal plans, consulting & personal coaching to be launched at the beginning of May. I am also consulting with an amazing, digitally platformed, plant-based culinary literacy program at FareWell to be launched this Spring , as well as, designing an on online e-course with Birth.World to help families understand fertility and teach nutrition for expecting Mothers. Right now I’m also shopping around my first cookbook to various publishers. And the first weekend in June, I will be in NYC to host a 3-day detox course with Katherine Greiner.
Your “you” time…
Last year I nearly lost everything, I kept myself too busy until I realized that I couldn’t maintain healthy relationships in my life if I didn’t have a healthy nurturing relationship with myself. Self-care has become a priority for me this year, so now I make a point of putting aside “me time.”
A super food smoothie with all my energizer’s: spirulina, cacao, germinated chia, banana, and tropical fruit or some matcha nicecream with coconut, hemp hearts, cacao nibs and fresh mango.
YOUR FOOD
Your energizer…
A super food smoothie with all my energizer’s: spirulina, cacao, germinated chia, banana, and tropical fruit or some matcha nicecream with coconut, hemp hearts, cacao nibs and fresh mango.
Your indulgence…
Chocolate: dark, organic, fair-trade.
Favorite restaurant…
My favorite restaurant is Koji’s in Playa Hermosa de Cobano, Costa Rica.
Favorite evening meal…
Something yummy and warm, sometimes comfort foods like lentils or garbonzos, often soups, always salads. We’ll change this up for mashed potatoes with creamy almond mushroom sauce and fresh greens with passionfruit dressing. I eat mostly vegan, unless my husband is cooking, then we’re looking at brown rice and beans with a chunky chopped fresh or blanched vegetable salad and some grilled or roasted organic chicken or fish and roasted root veggies.
YOUR NIGHTSTAND
A good book or magazine…
On my nightstand you’ll find my Divine guidance cards, The Crystal Path to Self Knowledge & Brain Maker by Dr. David Perlmutter and Kristin Logerg.
Night cream…
I love the 1000 Roses Andalou Naturals fruit stem cell products, non-GMO, vegan, organic.
Favorite tea…
Juanilama, Tilo & Tulsi.

We are one with the planet. If we think of the elements, of earth, water, air and the others, as living beings it is much easier to live a clean, plant-based lifestyle. The way we treat ourselves should be a reflection of the way we treat our beautiful planet.
