Interview

Sasha Plavsic founder of ILIA

Today she shares her vision of beauty and what products she recommends for the Summer.

In less than 5 years, ILIA has quickly placed itself as a reference in the organic cosmetic market. It started with a 1st collection of 6 Tinted Lip Conditioners and now has great additions to its line that include illuminators, mascara and more.
Behind this ethical-sustainable line packaged in a sleek recycled aluminum case is a fabulous woman, Sasha Plavsic.
Today she shares her vision of beauty and what products she recommends for the Summer with BWB.

BWB: You started with 6 lipsticks. Why that particular product first?

We actually started with 6 Tinted Lip Conditioner’s, which is essentially a tinted lip balm. The idea was to recreate a tinted balm I’d been using for 10 years into an organic form, with shades that contained a higher variety than the standard “cherry” stain.

BWB: What makes you completely different from most brands?

The more brand owners I meet, the more I realize what we go through isn’t much different from an operational standpoint. From a product standpoint it was important to be very transparent from the beginning. We don’t claim to be 100% organic or natural but we do our best to get as close to that ideal as possible. In the end, the product has to perform and feel good to use.

The best advice I can give to is to look for products with organic ingredients, or a higher percentage of these ingredients.

BWB: What are the ingredients you recommend us to avoid when we buy make-up?

There are some of the big ones most people know about such as BHA/BHT, Fragrance,  and parabens, but most of the time there are many other ingredients that replace the above known ones. The best advice I can give to is to look for products with organic ingredients, or a higher percentage of these ingredients.

BWB: What is your Beauty Routine?

As a new mom, my beauty routine is reduced to a quick 5 minute shower!
During this time I enjoy using Rahua hair products, Weleda body wash in Pomegranate, John Master’s Blood Orange Body Moisturizer (it smells amazing), Devita Cucumber toner, Lina Hanson Global Face Serum, ILIA Tinted Moisturizer in Hanalei, Multi-Stick in At Last and Illuminator in Cosmic Dancer. If I am lucky, maybe a coat of mascara – depending on time!

BWBAny natural brand for skincare that  you recently discovered and love?

Tata Harper makes some beautiful skin care products. After a couple weeks of use, I really noticed a difference.
I have also fallen in love with Lina Hanson’s Global Baby Serum for stretch marks and diaper rash.

BWB: What is your Wellness Routine?

At the moment its revolves around getting enough sleep, drinking lots of water and eating healthy.
Breastfeeding is more complicated than I imagined and in order to produce a good milk supply you must be well rested, relaxed, and hydrated. The funny thing is, those three things are important for general well being, as without them we can’t go very far.

Powering down the screens whether it be phone, computer or TV two hours before bedtime will do wonders for proper rest.

BWB: This month’s theme is ‘Sleep’: what is your routine to get your Beauty Sleep.

Ask me next year when my newborn is sleeping better! I can say sleep is taken for granted and that it is one of the most important things we can do. Powering down the screens whether it be phone, computer or TV two hours before bedtime will do wonders for proper rest.

BWB: With Summer around the corner what lipstick colors do you recommend?

Our Limited Edition shade, Pink Moon, is a perfect pink for those seeking a nice pop of color this summer.

BWB:  Do you have any tips for application?

When wearing a stronger hue like our lipstick, Neon Angel, you can revive the color with a Tinted Lip Conditioner such as Shell Shock, which has a similar tone and helps to add moisture in between applications.
