Throughout the years, I have been able to develop programs for patients to get healthy inside and therefore feel beautiful and look beautiful on the outside, and vice versa.

Tell us what inspired you to open your first health and wellness spa, CURE in Malibu?

As a physician, I am always focused on ways to help my patients either stay healthy or to fight disease or illness. As a woman, I have been interested in beauty and spas. I was able to see how spa, salon and wellness care really helped my patients and I decided to open a wellness location next door for my patients to use.
Throughout the years, I have been able to develop programs for patients to get healthy inside and therefore feel beautiful and look beautiful on the outside, and vice versa. My husband suffered from Lyme Disease and he was one of the first subjects to receive our various treatments. I can happily say that he is now healthy and feeling and looking fantastic!

What makes your approach different?

My approach is different than most current medical spas and salons. Traditionally, a salon focuses on just the look of one’s hair. Traditionally, a medical spa is owned by a plastic surgeon or dermatologist who focuses on the outer appearance. CURE is owned and was developed by a board certified internal medicine doctor. We look at a person’s beauty stemming from inner health, happiness and quality of life. If a person has those, then individual beauty shines through. We don’t focus on trying to stop aging! The CURE approach is about experiencing quality of life, no matter what age or state of health.

Combatting stress is a big focus for a woman in her 50s as most often she is juggling family and career. I focus on balancing work with personal time and continue to encourage a healthy lifestyle.

As our BWB readers range in age, please comment on the different issues which you see as most common in women of different age groups.

A woman in her 30s is usually focused on career and family building. I try and encourage good health habits of diet, exercise and hydration to prevent disease and illness.
A woman in her 40s is similar to a woman in her 30s but I begin to see some initial signs of aging. I continue to encourage a healthy lifestyle and begin some cosmetic treatments.
Combatting stress is a big focus for a woman in her 50s as most often she is juggling family and career. I focus on balancing work with personal time and continue to encourage a healthy lifestyle. Regular treatments of massage, acupuncture and yoga become important. Cosmetic treatments help with the mental aspects of aging as well as treating precancerous skin lesions.
When a woman reaches her 60s, quality of life is our main focus. If a client has developed an illness or condition, we provide what is needed to aid in feeling good and looking good.

You are a very busy professional woman. Please share with us your own personal wellness routine.

My personal wellness routine is following my passion with medicine and maintaining a balance of work and play. I try to exercise, hydrate and eat small meals frequently throughout the day to keep my body and mind fit. I use SPF every day without fail.

CURE has developed a hydrating serum that keeps my skin healthy and glowing.

Please share with us about the products you use at the Cure spas and mention a few of your favorites.

I have been getting IPLs monthly for years as well as hydra facial treatments. These keep my cells rejuvenating constantly and prevent any of my previous bad sun exposure days from building up.

Your work must be very rewarding and challenging at the same time. What are some of your greatest challenges at the moment?

Currently, it is difficult to keep myself from falling into the workaholic lifestyle. Life can be so stressful trying to balance owning businesses and being a doctor. I am always trying to think of ways to help my patients with new ideas while focusing on the great treatments and products we have. There just isn’t enough time in the day!

Please share what a day long experience at one of the CURE locations might look like?

It starts with morning yoga on the deck followed by freshly pressed juices.
This is followed by an esthetician and a massage therapist analyzing your skin and body to develop a regimen for care.
Lunch is catered by Nobu on the deck overlooking the beautiful Pacific Ocean.
A physician then does a complete physical and develops a program for optimal health. The day ends with a two hour pressure point massage for total relaxation of the body and mind.

What is the single most important piece of wellness advice you would have for women?

The single most important piece of wellness advice is laughter and happiness.
If we can all find inner quality and fulfillment, health and beauty naturally follow.
