The Skinny on OG Beauty Blogger, Lauryn Evarts Bosstick

Lauryn Evarts Bosstick is the blueprint for beauty in the digital age.

Throughout history, we’ve taken beauty cues from timeless women poised in paintings, supermodels posed in iconic cosmetics campaigns and glamorous starlets strutting on red carpets. In the present day, we get our beauty fix from the online creators and influencers populating our social media feeds. As one of the biggest OG beauty bloggers we could think of, Lauryn Evarts Bosstick is the blueprint for beauty in the digital age.

Since starting The Skinny Confidential (TSC) while in college in 2011, Lauryn has amassed a following in the millions, published a book, started a podcast, launched The Skinny Confidential BODY app and created her own brand. After reading her latest tell-all posts, you can treat yourself to the ultimate TSC facial kit which includes a luxurious face oil and ice roller. Lauryn’s iconically real & candid approach to social media is something that she has crafted since beginning. And, her no-nonsense approach approach to beauty reminds readers that a real person lives behind each sassy post. As such, beauty is first and foremost about being true and real to yourself. Here’s the skinny on the digital queen herself — the genius behind The Skinny Confidential, Lauryn.

As one of the biggest social influencers of today, how has your relationship with social media evolved over the years?

BOUNDARIES!

I have had to create boundaries; it is a slow and steady game. This all entails a lot of patience and discipline when it comes to playing a long game. Nothing happens overnight. At first, I thought my brand was overloaded with content. Now, I’m more purposeful with the content I create.

Also, I have to make sure the audience comes first—ALWAYS—and that each piece of content gives value to their life.

When it comes to evolving, I try to stay on the pulse of what’s happening – it changes daily.

What have been some of your proudest moments and greatest achievements since starting TSC?

It hasn’t been one epiphany. In other words, it has been a slow drip of water to fill up the bucket. Some standouts are launching a second book, coming out with my own product (an ice roller and oil for facial massage), and sharing the birth of my daughter with my audience.

Some moments I love are sharing the day-to-day, connecting with the audience via DM, and meeting with all kinds of podcast guests. For example, I’ve spoken with a sex trafficking survivor, Jessica Alba, Caitlyn Jenner and major psychologists, as well as major reality stars. It’s been really cool to share other peoples stories.

One of the most appealing traits about TSC is how real and honest you are with your audience, particularly with cosmetic procedures. What advice would you give to young girls who are struggling to distinguish pressure from social media to doing what makes them feel beautiful and confident?

You have to create boundaries around social media and know what serves you best. For example, I got my boobs done at 19 years old and I went into it for myself and no one else. It’s important to really refine why you are doing something.

I really appreciate people who are honest on social media. So, I try to be open about botox and fillers, and share my journey with my boob job.

At the end of the day, do what works for you and be mindful of the content you consume. The hours of scrolling adding up.

What are some dos and don’ts when it comes to social media?

I don’t have dos/don’ts for other people, really.

For me, I engage with the audience and put them first. For example, I don’t sit and play the comparison game all day. While I do use it as a tool, I don’t use it as something that drains my productivity.

I do use it to be creative, but I don’t use it to be distracted. In fact, I only consume around 2-ish Instagram stories a day. I truly believe you are the content you surround yourself with.

How do you unwind or unplug after a long week of work?

Chips, spicy salsa, margaritas, epsom salt bath, no phone, facial massage, ice rolling, walking in nature, Japanese garden zen music, a weed mint, Bossanova, red light therapy, breath work, and a huge reader.

Reading is my biggest outlet ever since I was a little girl. It brings me peace of mind and takes me to another world. I don’t know what I would do without books.

What are some of your favorite makeup and skincare products/brands these days?

I love Skinceuticals when it comes to medical grade products. I am absolutely obsessed with Clémence and her facial massages.

When I am doing facial massage, I am always using The Skinny Confidential Hot Mess Ice Roller and the Ice Queen Face Oil afterwards.

I am always about fighting inflammation, so any brands working to fight inflammation are it for me.

Also a huge fan of tiny, small batch skincare brands. Other brands I love are Elemis, Dr. Dennis Gross and Juice Beauty.

As for makeup brands I love, It Cosmetics has a fabulous CC cream, BeautyBlender (I love for applying a caffeinated sunscreen or concealer), Benefit highlighter, and Refy for brows.
